Among women with high total serum cholesterol (>250 mg/dl), those in the highest tertile of serum taurine had 61% lower odds of developing coronary heart disease compared to those in the lowest tertile (OR 0.39, 95% CI 0.19-0.83, p for trend = 0.02), with a significant interaction between taurine and cholesterol (p = 0.01).
